The first round of the playoffs is over and only 4 teams are still playing baseball. Here were the results:

American League:
Orioles 6 Indians 0
Brewers 11 Yankees 3

National League:
Phillies 27 Braves 1
Cubs 13 Cardinals 3

The only upset in the four games was the Brewers defeat of the Yankees. This sets up a very interesting second round matchup. The Orioles only lost two games this year, but both losses came against the Brewers!

The National League contest should be very tight. The Phillies won the season series 2 games to 1, but all three games were close. The Phillies won the first game 9-8 by scoring 3 runs in the ninth and they also won an extra inning game against the Cubs.

The Orioles and Cubs have played in the last two League Championships. The Brewers and the Phillies will try to end that streak on the 19th! The winners of these two games will meet for the League Championship in a best 2 out of 3 series that will start on 9/26.

August 24, 1999
The Phillies and Cubs remain tied for first in the National League as both teams won last weekend to go 9-7 on the season. All other playoff positions have been decided. In the American League the first round of the Playoffs will be:
Indians vs. Orioles
Brewers vs. Yankees

In the National League, the Cardinals have clinched third and the Braves are in fourth. The rainout makeups will be played on 8/29/99. The Phillies will play the Brewers while the Cubs will play the Yankees in a 7 inning game. The only way the Cubs can end up in first is if they beat the Yankees and the Phillies lose to the Brewers. The Cardinals will play the Yankees in a 7 inning game. The Braves will play the Orioles to round out the action on 8/29/99. In the end, all teams will end up with 17 games played except for the Cardinals and Brewers who will only play 16 this season.

The playoffs will start on 9/12/99.

August 16, 1999
There is only one week left in the regular season, but there have been 5 games rained out over the last two weekends. The American League regular season crown has already been clinched by the Orioles. The Yankees have a firm grasp on second but have not clinched second. The Brewers have clinched at least third place and have a chance for second.

The National League is totally up for grabs. The Phillies and Cubs are tied at 8-7. The Phillies hold the tie-breaker advantage having beaten the Cubs 2 of 3 times this season. The Cardinals are just 1.5 games back and still could take the regular season crown too. The weekend of 8/22 will be critical to deciding whether or not the rain outs need to be made up.

There has been talk of voting for all stars for the first time in Middlesex MSBL history! The managers will discuss this over the coming weeks.

May 27, 1999
The league has completed its third week of play. The surprise of the league so far is the Brewers who are the only undefeated team in the league. What a start!! The Phillies lead the National League with a 2-1 record. The league is taking Memorial Day weekend off.
The game of the week for June 6 will be the showdown between the Brewers and the Phillies.

Feb 21, 1999
The first league meeting of 1999 was held today. The following items were discussed.
Schedule:
The 1999 season will start on May 2. The final schedule will be made in April, but there's a good chance the schedule will be the same as last year.

Big Rule Change:
The league has switched to be a wooden bat league.

Teams:
The same 8 teams will form the league this year. Each team must have at least a 16 player roster.

Playoff Eligibility:
You must play in at least 9 games to be eligible to play in the playoffs. At the end of every game both managers must sign a roster card that must be mailed to the league office by the following Saturday. The league office will use these sheets to determine playoff eligibility. If you are tossed from a game, then that game can't be counted towards your playoff eligibility.

Umpires:
Umps have been instructed to take a zero tolerance policy and toss players who talk back.
