Orioles 11 Braves 0
The Orioles edged the Braves 11-0 in a game played at Long Field. Steve
Saraceno pitched 6 strong innings, yielding 6 hits, no walks, and fanning 9
to gain the win. Steve also went 2-3 with a ribbie to earn miller lite player
of the game honors.
Rick Moran matched Big Sara pitch for pitch until the O's
finally got on the board in the 6th with one run, then exploded for 10 more
over the final 3 innings.
Bren Doyle had a booming triple, Steve Simoes hit a
2 run tall jack, and Bill Stickney went 3-3 with a pair of RBIs. Wally Siggins
pitched 2 innings, striking out 5, and the O's new closer, Big Bren Doyle
finished the game with 2 punchouts and a tapper to short to end the game.
Flash Gordon had 3 of the Braves 6 hits. O's hurlers rang up 16k's, the
fifth straight week with 10 or more. the O's played without DH Mark Stickney,
1b Bunky Smith , and 3b Barry Bennett, all of whom were being rested before
the playoffs begin. In a special pre-game ceremony, Orioles GM Stan Pulnik
presented league president Paul Valentino with a copy of star hurler rob gray's
drivers license.

Orioles 16 Cardinals 1
The Orioles beat the Cardinals 16-1. Wally Siggins went 5 to get the win, followed by
Steve Simoes, Rob Gray, and Jeff Merzel. The O's jumped out to a quick 4-0
lead courtesy of a Tom Galvani grand slam in the first. the Orioless plated 7 in
the 6th, highlighted by a titanic 2 run homer by Bill Stickney. Since it
landed out of everyone's(including the right fielder) sight, best guesses put
the blast somewhere between 400-430 ft. no B.S., it was a BOMB! The O's
out-hit their feathered counterparts 11-7 in the game.
Braves 14 Indians 13
The Braves scored two runs in the top of the ninth to outlast the Indians, 14-13, at Marlborough High School.
Rich Moran went the distance to pick up the win despite allowing 16 hits in a gutty performance. Rich Leone went the
first five for the Indians. Mike Kelly did a nice job in relief before giving way to eventual loser Larry Rosoff in the ninth.
Rosoff entered the game with the tying run on first and no outs. He induced a popup to the mound and got a strikeout, however,
Mike Callahan advanced to second as the ball bounced away from catcher Fu Poon. Callahan went to third on another wild pitch
and was replaced by pinch runner Chip Chiodo. After a walk, Rosoff uncorked a wild pitch and Chiodo slid past a swipe tag to
score the tying run. The eventual winning run scored on an infield error. Moran registered his only 1-2-3 inning in the ninth to
gain the victory.
Chiodo and Flash Gordon had three hits apiece for the (2-13) Braves, while Tim McClain went 4-4 and drove in a pair of runs for the
Indians, who fell to 6-10 and eliminated from any chance at catching the third-place Brewers.
Orioles 5 Phillies 1
The O's beat the Phils at Keefe Tech, 5-1. Rob Gray tossed a 4 hitter,
striking out 14, to earn the win. In Rob's 13 1/3 innings against the Phils this
season, Rob has racked up 24 k's. A 4 run first inning by the O's led to the
Phils demise. Bill Stickney had a 2 rbi double to key the rally. Bunky Smith
hit a booming triple later in the game.
Pat Chieffalo pitched a tremendous game for the Phils yielding just 5 hits. The Phillies defense let him down
on several occasions.
The O's host the Cards this week, finishing up with a makeup vs. the Braves.
Indians 11 Cubs 10
The Indians had two great comebacks to win this game on a two run two out single
by Norm Lallier. The Indians never held a lead in the game until that clutch hit. The
ninth inning was very exciting. It was tied at 9 going to the ninth thanks to the
Indians who scored 3 runs in the bottom of the eighth, 2 of which were unearned.
The Cubs got a run in the top of the ninth without getting a hit. Matt Corkum lead
off and got to second on an infield error. Dan Gould went in to run for Matt. With
two out Dan stole third and came in when the throw went into left field. The Indians
showed a lot by coming back after that top of the ninth. Sullivan lead off with a
walk and Kline sacrificed him to second. McLain hit a single and advanced to second
on the throw to the plate that forced Sulllivan to stay at third. A strikeout then
set the stage for the 2 out heroics by Lallier.
Both teams played a little sloppy in the field and the Indians took advantage of 8 Cubs
errors to score 6 unearned runs. The Indians also pounded out 14 hits, including a 4-4 day from Guerra.
Leone collected two hits as well. Jerry Guerra, Fu Poon, Richie Leone, Sullivan and McLain all
scored twice.
Pat Kline went the distance for the Tribe to get the win. He kept the game close
so the Indians had a chance to comeback.
The vacation-depleted Cubs got an excellent start from Andy Schultz who went seven
strong innings giving up 2 earned runs. Andy also scored twice.
The Cubs offense was paced by Andy Luckhardt who had 3 hits and 3 RBIs and Dan
Gould who hit a two run inside the park homer. Chris Dunn had 2 singles and 2 RBIs.
The Cubs had 13 hits as 9 of the 11 players had at least one hit.
Matt Corkum played for the first time in 1999 and made three sensational plays in
right field. Brian Donnelly caught the first seven innings of the game for his
first appearance behind the plate. He did great and managed to throw out an
attempted basestealer at second base.
Game 1: Orioles 2 Indians 1, 8 innings
Game 2: Orioles ?? Indians ??
The Orioles swept a doubleheader from the Indians at Marlborough. The O's took the opener, 2-1, in an 8-inning beauty.
Pat Kline pitched a gem for the Tribe, but was outdueled by the duo of starter Wally Siggins and winning reliever Wil Lessard.
The O's scored 9 runs in the top of the first in the nightcap and were never challenged.

Cardinals 9 Indians 6
The Cardinals defeated the host Indians, 9-6, at Bauks Field yesterday. Vigeant went the distance for the Red Birds
and singled in a pair of runs. Jim Forbush took the loss for the Tribe, who received 6 1/3 scoreless relief from southpaw
Richie Leone. In a losing cause all 10 hitters in the Indians lineup had at least one hit, with catcher Fu Poon leading
the way with three hits. Jim McLaughlin had a double and a triple, driving in 3 runs in the process. Masiello led the
victorious Cards' 11-hit attack with three and two RBIs. Both teams now have a 5-7 record.
Orioles 17 Cubs 3
The Orioles rode a huge first inning to a crushing win over the Cubs. The Orioles scored 12
runs in the first inning as the first 8 batters reached base. The Cubs defense didn't show up
until the second inning as several balls in the first inning were playable. The Cubs never
recovered from the slow start but did avoid the mercy rule. There were several offensive
stars for the Orioles lead by Brendon Doyle who was 4-5 with 2 doubles an 3 runs scored.
B Galvani scored 4 times and Saracino scored twice.
The Orioles pitcher went the distance giving up 9 hits and no walks.
The Cubs offense was Bryon Withers who hit a booming triple and a double to drive in and score a
run.
Game 1: Indians 13 Brewers 2
Game 2: Brewers 9 Indians 8
The Indians and Brewers split a doubleheader in the sweltering heat at Keefe Tech.
Ace righthander Pat Kline hurled a complete game for his fourth win of the year in the opener taken by the Indians, 13-2.
Kline gave up eight hits, while fanning eight and walking three in the victory. Kline was also one of five Indians
(Fu Poon, Jim Forbush, Bob Crossman and Richie Leone were the others) to bang out two hits apiece in the 12-hit attack
against two Brewers pitchers, and one of four (along with Forbush, Crossman and Leone) with a pair of RBIs each. The victory
was the fourth in the last five games for the surging Indians.
Having the knowledge that the Yankees forfeited both ends of a doubleheader with the first-place Orioles, the winner of the
Indians-Brewers nightcap would tie the pinstripers for second place in the AL. The Brewers took the game, 9-8, but not
without some late-inning dramatics.
The Brew Crew jumped on southpaw starter Richie Leone for five runs in the bottom of the second. The Tribe came back with
three runs in the third against the Brewers' righthander Paul Morganti. The teams each scored single runs in the fourth before
the Brewers were handed a pair of unearned runs in the fifth for an 8-4 lead.
The Indians, with four consecutive singles, cut the deficit in half with a pair of runs in the sixth. In the top of the seventh,
Morganti walked the leadoff batter, Kevin Greene. Leone forced Greene at second, but moved up when Morganti nailed
Norm Lallier with a pitch. Larry Rosoff ripped an RBI double over the first base bag, with Lallier advancing to third. Morganti
induced Jerry Guerra to ground to third and Lallier was tagged out in a rundown for the second out of the inning. Rosoff
scored the tying run when Morganti unleashed a wild pitch.
With the game knotted at 8-8, Indians' reliever Tim McClain walked Gerry ? to open the home half of the seventh.
Gerry ?, representing the potential winning run, stole second and third with nobody out. Morganti popped out to short,
but the game ended when a Mclain fastball got past Indians' catcher Poon. Morganti, went all the way for the win
despite giving up 12 hits and walking four. He was aided by some shoddy baserunning by the Indians. McClain, who
relieved Leone (5 IP, 5 H, 6 ER, 4 K, 3 BB) took the hard-luck loss without allowing a hit.
The split gives the Brewers a 6-5 record and the Indians stay a game back at 5-6.

Orioles 4 Cardinals 0
The Orioles escaped Sauta field with a nailbiting 4-0 win over the Cardinals.
This pitchers duel was 2-0 after 8 innings.
For the Orioles, Wally Siggins pitched 9 innings, collecting 10 k's while allowing only 2 hits
and 0 runs. Offensively Siggins was 1-3 with a
double and an RBI. For the rest of the O's, Tom Galvani was 3-4, with a 2b, 3b,
RBI and a run scored. Steve Simoes was also 3-4, with (2) 2b and a run scored.
Larry Olerich (2- 3) had the only other RBI as the O's scored their first run on
a double steal when 58 year old Dick Scullary (2-3) broke for second and got in
a run down allowing Bunkie Smith to score from third. Barry Bennett (1-4, 2b)
was the defensive star of the game making two diving stops at third and reaching
over the fence to come up with a foul fly for a key out. Stan Pulnik also had a
hit to round out the O's 13 hit day.
Mike Vigeant pitched a solid game for the Cards going the distance in the loss.
Vigeant bore down in key spots working out of several jams and kept the game
close throughout. The score was 2-0 going into the ninth when the O's pushed 2
across to seal the game. The key of the game was Siggins who allowed only one
runner to reach second base.
The O's host the Yankees in a double header at Merloni field this Sunday.
Cubs 6 Brewers 0
This was a pitchers duel as both teams combined to get just 9 hits.
The Cubs recorded their third shutout of the season with a 6-0 win over
the Brewers. Cubs pitching allowed just 2 hits and 2 walks and no Brewer
reached second base. Andy Luckhardt went the first 7 innings giving up
the 2 hits and the 2 walks while striking out 14. Tom Barnes pitched
the final two innings collecting 2 Ks.
The 2 Brewer singles were hit by Pete Moynihan and Jerry. The Brewers
starter had a good game going 6 innings and allowing just 3 runs. This
was a 1-0 game after 4 innings. The Brewers turned a clutch double play
third to home to first to end a bases loaded, one out jam in the fourth
inning.
Dan Gould had a great defensive game for the Cubs as he started 2
double plays. Rich Schwarz collected 2 hits and 3 RBIs for the Cubs.
Eddie Murray and Tony Leary had run scoring singles.
Game 1: Indians 6 Yankees 4
Game 2: Yankees 3 Indians 1
The Indians and Yankees split a well-played twin-bill at Bauks Field.
Larry Rosoff and Fu Poon had three hits and an RBI apiece to lead a
16-hit attack, as the Indians took the opener by a score of 6-4.
Indians ace Pat Kline, who had a pair of hits himself, scattered eight
hits and struck out four in notching his second win of the season.
Jerry Guerra (2 RBIs) and Jim McLaughlin (1 RBI) also had a pair of
hits each.
Paul Valentino, Valdebrini and Bill Senecal had
two hits each for the Yankees, who fought back from an early 6-1
deficit. The Yanks left the tying run on first in the seventh when
an unassisted ground out to first baseman Rosoff ended the threat.
The Yankees bounced back to take the nightcap, 3-1, behind the dazzling
four-hit, seven-strikeout pitching of southpaw Bob Boermeester. All
the scoring came in the second inning. The Indians, who lost the coin
toss for home field, took the early lead on an RBI grounder by Bob
Crossman, which scored Fu Poon who opened with a single.
The Yanks scored their three in the home half of the inning off of
hard-luck loser Rich Leone, who went the distance for the Tribe in
pitching a six-hitter. He was done in by an inside-the-park two-run
homer by Boermeester and an error which scored the third run.
Kline had two hits for the Indians and Valdebrini had a pair for the
Yankees. The split gives the Yankees a 6-2 record and the Indians move
to 3-5.
Game 1: Cubs 15 Braves 5
Game 2: Cubs 13 Braves 1
The Cubs managed the only sweep of the weekend by beating the shorthanded
Braves. The Braves only had 8 players for the double header. Eric
Gordon pitched the complete 6 innings in the first game and then had to
catch the 7 innings of the second game. Rich Moran did the opposite
catching the first game and pitching the second game. It was a great effort
by both those players in the extreme heat.
Marc Sanfacon was the offensive star for the Braves collecting 3 of the
Braves 10 hits. Those hits were all for extra bases, 2 doubles and a
triple. Chip Chioto collected 2 singles.
The Cubs pitching has been fantastic this year as the team ERA is just
2.25. For the double header, 2 complete games were pitched by the
starters, Andy Schultz and Andy Luckhardt. Andy Schultz allowed 5 hits,
struck out 3 and didn't walk a batter in the first game. In the second
game Andy Luckhardt also gave up 5 hits but Kd 10 and walked 2.
There were many offensive stars for the Cubs on this day. Eddie Murray
was 5-6 with a walk, a triple, 8 RBIs and 3 runs scored. Bryon Withers
has been tearing the ball up all season. Bryon was 4-6 with 2 doubles,
5 RBIs and 4 runs scored for the double header. Bob Zeleznik is also
having a hot start to the season. He only played in the first game
but still managed to produce a 2-3 with 2 runs scored. Bill Keville had
a great day, in game 2 he was 2-3 with a double and a triple. Pete
DiNatale was 2-3 with 4 walks and 3 runs scored in the two games. The
Cubs had one big inning early in each game. All of the runs in both of
the big innings were scored after two were out. In game 1, a 10 run second
inning was highlighted by a Frank Fazio 2 run single. In game 2, a 5
run third inning happened after two outs and no one was on base.

Game 1: Phillies 3 Cardinals 1
Game 2: Cardinals 6 Phillies 3
The Phillies beat the Cardinals 3-1 on a 3 hit performance by Demian Gage in game 1.
Gage was dominating as he struck out 8 and walked one in going the distance.
The Phillies scored 3 in the 5th on singles by Bill Hoover, Jeff Langan and Shawn
Boardman. A triple by Rob Meader brought in 2 of the 3 runs in the 5th.
The Cardinals pitcher, Vigeant, also went the distance giving up 3 runs on 8 hits.
The Cards only run came on double by Pfaff and a single by Trey Garvin in the 4th.
In the second game, The Cards won 6-3 over the Phillies. Paul Murphy did
it all for the Cards, as he went the distance on the mound and drove in a bunch
of runs with two doubles. Murphy scattered 8 hits in his 7 innings pitched.
The Cards scored a run in the 2nd on Paul Murphy's double and a run in the
3rd on a passed ball. In the 4th 3 runs scored on a walk and 2 hit battsmen
along with a double by Paul Murphy and a single by Pfaff. The Cards
Olson scored in the 5th on singles by Garvin and Pisano.
The Phillies scored 2 in the third on singles by Bagley and Daley and a
triple by Rob Meader, plus 1 run in the 6th on singles by Langan, Hoover and
Chieffalo. The Phillies split the their pitching in game 2 between Pat
Chieffalo, 3 innings, 5 runs and Mark Muntz 3 innings, 1 run.
Orioles 9 Phillies 8
In a wild game played in Medway, the O's nipped the Phillies, 9-8. The O's
scored 4 in the 1st and 3 in the 3rd, and appeared on their way
to a blowout when the Phillies erupted for a 6 run 4th inning off the
usually tough Wally Siggins. Wally seemed to tire and could not survive the
inning, needing help from Rob Gray. Gray struck out 9 over 4 1/3 innings in a
sterling performance, and Will Lessard shut the door in the 9th to preserve
the win.
The much improved Phils had 10 hits in the game, while the O's had 16. Orioles
hurlers struck out 16 and walked only 1.
Offensively the birds were led by Bill (can anyone get him out?) Stickney,
Jeff Merzel, Siggins and Lessard, each with 2 hits. Brendan Doyle threw out
another runner at the plate. The Orioles continue to win despite missing key
players every week.
The Phillies attack was paced by Langan, Hoover, and Boardman.
Yankees 4 Cubs 3
This was a very exciting game that went to the wire and had several lead changes. In
the end, clutch Yankee hits and solid Yankee defense won this game. Trailing 2-1
going to the bottom of the seventh, the Yankees scored three runs. The key hit
of the inning came from Paul Valentino who hit a triple. Paul drove in the tying
run and scored the go ahead run. Hogley's single drove in Paul and he eventually
scored the game winning run on a Ryan sac fly. Boermeester had two singles for
the Yankees.
The Cubs offense was paced by Bryon Withers who hit a monster home run in the third
inning and Chris Dunn who singled and drove in a run.
Tom Barnes went the distance for the Cubs and deserved a win. He only allowed 6
hits and 1 earned run. He only gave up only 2 hits through the first 6 innings.
It was the strong pitching of Stan Litchman (5 innings 2 runs) and Boermeester (4
innings 1 run) coupled with defense that won the Yankees this game. A turning point
in this contest actually happened in the first inning. With two outs and Cubs
runners at 2nd and 3rd, Tom Barnes ripped a shot down the third base line, Dawson
dove to his right snared the grounder and threw Tom out at first. Without that play,
this would have been a completely different game.

Indians 20 Braves 6
The Indians (2-4), held to 20 runs in their first five games, matched
their seasonal output in a 20-6 hammering of the shorthanded Braves
(0-6) at Bauks Field.
Twelve of the thirteen Tribe batsmen had at least one hit, as they
hammered out 20 hits against the pitching duo of Rich Moran and Eric
Gordon. Larry Rosoff had three hits and Norm Lallier, Jerry Guerra,
Jerry Leone, Fu Poon, Bob Crossman and Jim Forbush had two hits apiece.
Both Leone and Jim McLaughlin drove in three runs. Rosoff, Guerra,
Nick Derose, Kevin Greene and Pat Kline had 2 rbis each for the
Indians, whose 19 runs driven in on the day were three more than
they had all season. Lallier, shifted into the leadoff spot, scored
four runs for the victors.
Another major improvement for the Indians came in the area of
strikeouts, where Braves pitchers recorded just one. Indians hitters
have been striking out an average of better than eight times per
ballgame.
The Braves, due to a rash of injuries, made the trek from Medfield
with only eight players. The Indians, in the spirit of fair
competition, supplied the Braves with a defensive fielder each inning
and waived the opportunity to receive an automatic out each time the
Braves number 9 hitter would have come to the plate.
Rookie Jim Forbush made his debut as a starter and went 3 2/3 innings
before tiring with the score 5-5 and the bases loaded. Mike Kelly,
one of the Indians hottest hitters of late and the only hitless Indian
in this game, induced Gordon to line out to short to end the threat.
Kelly (1-0) , who picked up the win in 1 1/3 scoreless innings of
relief, was the benefactor of a 10-run explosion in the Indians fifth,
highlighted by a two-run double by Kline.
Kline (1 ER, 4 Ks), the ace of the Indians staff, relieved Kelly to
start the sixth and pitched through the eighth, while Lallier mopped
up in the ninth.
The Braves, who were limited to seven hits, were led by Chip Chiodi,
Wright and Callaghan with two each.
The Indians will take on the Yankees in a twin-bill at Bauks next
Sunday at 2 pm. Kline and Leone are the expected starting pitchers.
Orioles 11 Indians 1
the O's bushwhacked the Indians, 11-1, combining 11 walks and 9 timely
hits to run away and hide early in the game. The O's racked up 6 quick
ones in the 1st, sending all 11 men to the plate. Wally Siggins cruised
for 7 innings, giving up 5 hits, striking out 6, and yielding his first
walk in 21 innings pitched this year. Steve Saracino closed out the
game on the hill for the shorthanded birds who played without Steve
Simoes, Mark Stickney, Bob Galvani, Bunky Smith, and Will Lessard.
Despite the 11-1 loss, the Indians discovered they have a southpaw who
can give them some innings to take the burden off ace Pat Kline. Rich
Leone settled down nicely after a tough first inning where he gave up
six runs on four hits and four walks. He followed that up with
three-hit, two-run ball over the next six innings. Pat Kline looked
sharp in his relief stint.
Offensively, the birds were paced by the ageless one, Dick Scullary,
(2-4), Tom Galvani (2-4, triple and a monster homer, 2 rbi) and Stan
Pulnik (1-4, 2 rbi). Brenden Doyle had a BOOMING triple and threw
out a runner at the plate. Doc Stickney threw out a runner at 2nd
from right, and Jeff Merzel picked off another guy at first. The
Orioles travel next week to Medway to face the Phillies.
The Indians registered nine hits and squandered several scoring
opportunities, leaving 11 men on base. Jerry Guerra led the Tribe
with 3 hits, while Darren Sullivan and Larry Rosoff had two hits
apiece. Guerra, the regular second-baseman, filled in admirably at
shortstop for the Indians, who played without starter Jim Forbush and
backup Norm Lallier. In the Orioles' seventh, Guerra was on the front
end of a 6-4-3 double play ball.
The O's are averaging 8.4 runs per game, while yielding 3.4 per game.

Cubs 4 Cardinals 0
The Cubs pitched their second 3 hit shutout in the last three games by shutting down the
Cardinals 4-0 at Riverside Park in Hudson. Andy Luckhardt started and was masterful
in pitching a perfect 5 innings. He finished with 6 innings pitched and gave up 1
hit with no walks. He struck out at least 2 batters in all six innings for a total
of 13! Over Andy's last two starts he has pitched 11 scoreless innings allowing
just 2 hits with 21 Ks and no walks! Tom Barnes closed out the game and picked up
the win. Tom was also very impressive in throwing three innings of shutout ball
allowing just two hits. The Cubs combo of Luckhardt and Barnes threw a 9
inning three hit shutout with 14 Ks and 0 walks.
Defensively, the Cubs did not commit a single error. Eddie Murray made the one
tough play of the game in center field in the seventh inning.
While the Cubs pitching was rolling, the Cardinals pitching was too. The Cubs were
held to two hits (Tom Barnes and Andy Schultz) and no runs through the first six
innings. Then in the seventh the bats woke up and three runs were scored. After
newcomer Billy Bracken reached on an error 4 straight singles produced the runs.
Billy, Dan Gould and Pete DiNatale all scored. A clutch 2 run single was hit by
John Sudkin and then Eddie Murray singled in the third run. The last run was
scored by Bill Keville in the eighth inning.
Phillies 12 Braves 0
The Phillies won 12-0 over the Braves. The Philles offense included
homers by Greg Daley and Rob Meader, along with a triple by Jeff
Langan. Eleven walks were issued by the Braves, 6 of which eventually
scored. The Phillies had a total of 11 hits on the day. The Braves had
4 hits, all singles. Greg Daley pitched the first 5 innings for the
Phils, giving up 1 hit in the 5th, with 6 Ks and 2 walks. Rick Huckins
pitched the 6th and 7th, with 2 hits and a walk. Demian Gage pitched
the 8th and 9th, with 1 hit. Rich Moran went 7 innings for the Braves,
and Eric Gordon pitched the 8th.
Orioles 15 Braves 0
The O's saw the return of two of their five missing players on Sunday,
and snuck by the Braves, 15-0. Will Lessard went 4 innings and Wally
Siggins finished up, combining to hold the Braves to 3 hits. Kudos to
Rich Moran, who due to injuries on his pitching staff, went out and
took one for the team. It takes a lot of guts to go out and do that.
Mike Kelly did the same thing last year for the tribe, and though his
arm was ready to fall off afterward, he was justifiably proud of his
efforts that day.
Phillies 4 Brewers 2
The Phillies beat the Brewers 4-2 on an eight inning, 5 hit performance
by Pat Chieffalo, he had 8 Ks and 2 walks giving up 2 earned runs.
Demian Gage pitched the 9th with 2 Ks to close out the game. Phillies
runs were scored on a bases loaded walk to Shawn Boardmam. Rob Meader
was hit by the pitch with bases still loaded to score the second run
in the 5th inning. In the 7th Bill Hoover scored after Pat Chieffalo
doubled for the Phils. Rob Meader homered in the 9th for the 4th run.
Jack Dunagan pitched 5 innings for the Brewers and gave up only 2
earned runs with 4 Ks while Ron Felt pitched the last 4 innings with
10 Ks and 2 earned runs. The Brewers runs scored on an RBI triple in
the 2nd and a SAC fly by Pete Moynahan in the 5th inning.
Yankees 7 Cardinals 5
The Yankees beat the Cards 7-5 on a great pitching performance by Bob
Boermeester. It was a cleanly played and was 4-2 until the 7th when
the Yanks managed to put a cross three more runs. Mike Vigeant pitched
great for the Cards and kept them in the game until the end. The Cards
loaded the bases with one out in the 9th and scored two runs off Yankee
reliever Mark Calibirti. When Valentino couldn't handle any of the
three grounders hit to him at third and the bases loaded, he brought
back his starter Boermeester to finish off. In the end, Boermeester
got the win and the save!!!!
Cubs 17 Indians 2
The Cubs exploded to score 12 runs over the 5th and 6th innings to coast to a
17-2 victory over the Indians. This was actually a 3-0 game after three innings.
The Cubs had another strong performance on defense. The best play came in the
second inning when right fielder Tony Leary fired a strike to Bryon Withers who
made a great scoop and tag to cut down a runner at the plate trying to score on a
sac fly.
Tom Barnes started again. Tom didn't have his best stuff but was still very effective to hold the
Indians to one run over six innings. Tom got the key outs with clutch pitches when he needed to.
Bryon Withers pitched the last inning to notch his first appearance of the season. His heater was
working as he struck out the first two batters he faced.
Pat Kline started for the Indians and was pulled after 4 innings to keep his pitch count
down. After the explosion in the 6th inning, Larry Rosoff mopped up for the Indians.
Mike Kelly was the only Indian with multiple hits in the game, going 2-2. A single
by Larry drove in the final Indians run.
This was a great offensive game for the Cubs. All 12 Cubs that played the whole
game either scored or drove in a run. Bryon Withers ripped a double and a towering
triple in this contest and reached by error twice. He also drove in three runs and
scored three times. Other big stars in this game were Chris Dunn and Bob Zeleznik
who were both three for three. Bob doubled and drove in three runs in a game he
considered skipping because of an ailing finger. Thanks for playing Bob!!! Chris
scored twice and had a beautiful bunt single. Brian Donnelly had his third
straight 1-3 performance and he drove in 2 runs. Eddie Murray had a clutch two
out single in the first to drive in a run. Tom Jette reached base in all three at
bats with a single and two reached on errors.
Brewers 6 Orioles 5
I have not received a game recap for this game. This was the game of the week as the only
two remaining undefeated teams squared off at Lou Merloni field in Framingham. This must
have been a very exciting game based on the final score. Congratulations to the Brewers who
are now the only team in the league with a perfect record.

The Yankees beat the Indians 13-3 in a rain-shortened 7 inning game at Keefe Tech. For the
Indians, Norm Lallier took the loss in his first ever start. Five other Indian relievers pitched

Indians 7 Cardinals 4
The Indians, behind the 15 strikeout, complete-game performance of Pat Kline, and the hitting
of rookie catcher Fu Poon, spoiled the Sauter Field debut of the host Cardinals, 7-4, in Hudson.
Both teams are now 1-1.
The tribe wasted little time against Cards' starter Mark Vigeant, as the first four batters all
had hits and eventually scored. With the bases loaded on three singles, Poon laced a double to
score a pair of runs. Two outs later Kline helped himself, ripping a two-run double of his own.
The Cards scored an unearned run in the bottom of the first, however, Poon upped the lead to 6-1 with
another two-run double. An unearned run in the fourth made it 7-1 before the Cards scored a pair of
unearned runs in the fifth on a pair of singles and a three-base error.
Kline, who was brilliant scattering eight hits and walking just two, surrendered his only earned run in the
bottom of the ninth accounting for the final score.
Poon and Larry Rosoff (three hits each) led the fifteen-hit attack for the Indians, who played without four
starting players. Ten of the twelve Indians had at least one hit. The Cardinals hits came from eight different players.
Brewers 10 Braves 7
At Keefe Tech, the Brewers continued their perfect start in 1999 with a 10-7 win for their
second win. The Brewers jumped to a 5-0 lead and then weathered the Braves
comeback attempt.
Rich Moran and Eric Gordon combined on the mound to keep the Braves in the game. Offensively,
Gordon and Mike Callaghan led the Braves attack with a couple hits a piece. Paul
Chiodo filled in nicely behind the plate when fulltime Catcher Moran toiled on the mound.
Orioles 5 Cubs 1
In an exciting hard fought rematch of last year's Championship series, the Orioles prevailed 5-1 scoring
4 runs in the bottom of the eighth. Will Lessard pitched 4 scoreless innings for the Orioles and the
reliever got the win going a strong 5 innings. Scullary produced the first run of the game for the Os

runners at the plate.
Cardinals 3 Braves 2, 10 innings
The Cards beat the Braves 3-2 in a well pitched 10 inning game at Medway
High. The use of the wooden bats and a howling wind blowing in from center
made it a station to station game. The Cards showed great enthusiasm and had
about 16 active players. 3 pitchers for the Cards held the Braves to 2 runs.
The Braves had ample baserunners, but couldn't get the big hit.
Braves rookie Andy Troani struck out 11 Cards through 5, relief pitcher Jim
Callaghan took the loss. For the Braves, Rich Moran and Callaghan combined
for 5 hits and each drove in a run. Eric "Flash" Gordon had a booming

One of the only hits he gave up was a homer to Paul Valentino. Rob Gray worked
the final 3 innings earning the save.
Bob Boormeester, a first year player, started for the Yanks and did a great job.
Lack of offense did in the Yanks!
Brewers 11 Indians 7
The Indians dropped an 11-7 heartbreaker to the Brewers in the season opener at
Bauks Field in Marlborough.
Behind the clutch hitting of Richie Leone and newcomer Darren Sullivan, Indians'
righthander Pat Kline was sailing along with a 5-1 lead into the sixth before
surrendering the first Brewers' hit, a single. The Brewers got to Kline in the
seventh, scoring four unearned runs to tie the score at 5-5.
After rookie righthander Norm Lallier hurled a scoreless top half of the eighth,
the Indians took the lead in the bottom of the inning. Singles by Larry Rosoff
and Jerry Guerra and three consecutive walks gave the Indians a 7-5 lead. The key
moment in the game ensued when Sullivan, who battled his way to a full count, was
called out on strikes on a laces-high fastball. That call seemed to take the wind
out of the Indians' sails as the next two hitters also fanned with the bases loaded.
Sullivan was called in to save the game for Lallier in the ninth, but was unable to retire
any of the three batters he faced. Kline was summoned back into the game with his team
holding a one-run lead, men on first and third and a 2-0 count on the Brewers number three
hitter. Kline worked the count full and struck him out on a fastball for the first out of
the inning. However, the Indians' ace ran out of gas and was touched up for a couple of hits
leading to a six-run inning and an 11-7 deficit. After a leadoff walk in the bottom of the ninth,
the Brewers closer struck out the side to close out the comeback victory for the Brew Crew.
Guerra, Leone (booming triple, 3 RBIs) and Sullivan (2 RBIs) paced the Indians nine-hit attack with two hits each.

scored on an error in the first. In the 3rd 3 runs scored on doubles by Rob Meader and
Frank Martinis and a triple by Mark Rogers. In the 5th two runs scored on a
base hit, a walk and a triple by Brian Gibbons. A base hit, a walk and a
triple by Rob Meader scored 3 runs in the 9th.
Pat Chieffalo started for the Phillies. The Cubs scored 6 times as four unearned runs
crossed the plate in the first inning alone. Chieffalo went 3 innings giving up 3
earned runs. Rick Huckins pitched 2 1/3 innings, giving up a run, one hit and
a walk. Demian Gage pitched billiantly for the victory. Gage went the last 3 2/3
innings striking out 6 giving up no runs with one hit and a walk.
For the Cubs, Tom Barnes pitched the first 7 innings. Mark Grogan struck out the side
in the eighth inning in the only inning he pitched.
The Cubs offense was paced by Barnes and Chris Dunn with two hits a piece. Andy Luckhardt
also delivered a clutch two out run producing single.

a line drive.
