The American League beat the National League 17-4 in the MetroWest ABL All-Star Game Sunday Oct. 17
at Ashland High.
Steve Saraceno of the Ashland Red Sox took the win, throwing four scoreless innings. Marlboro
Indian Tom Dowey pitched 3 innings, allowing no earned runs, and Holliston Mariner John Gatti
allowed one hit in his two innings of work.
All told, the American League pitchers held the Nationals to six hits on the day.
Offensive stars for the Americans included Gatti with a double, single, walk, and four RBIs. Joe
Casula of the Red Sox reached base five straight times. Mariners Ed Wright and Chris Shea both
doubled. And Brian Farrell of the Sox reached base three times.
The National League offensive output was highlighted by a run-scoring double by Gerry DiLuzo in the
fourth.
"It was dazzling to see so much baseball talent gathered together on one diamond," said American
League coach Steve Saraceno after the game. "Sometimes it's hard to believe that these men are
mere mortals, made out of flesh, blood, and bone just like the rest of us. Despite the lopsided
score, I'm sure all the fans at the game got their money's worth, all seven of them. Yes, my
congratulations to all the All-Stars!"
