Phillies 4 Cardinals 3, Phillies 13 Cardinals 3
Game one featured top-notch pitching by both teams leaving the score at 3-3 into extra innings. In the
bottom of the eighth Will Goulart on a gutsy play scored from first base on a clutch bloop single by
Mark Rogers to win the game. Jamie Nix pitched a great 7 innings for Medway. Matt Finnegan and Matt
Sandock pitched well for the Cardinals, allowing no runs after the first until the Phillies struck in
the eighth.
The game two starter for the Cards was Tom Langmeier who had no-hit the Phillies on August 7th. This
game started with a bang though as Will Goulart drove a ball into the gap in right-center for a 3 run
homerun. A couple of innings later Jamie Nix hit a bomb over the left fielder’s head that also went for
a 3 run dinger. The Cardinals chipped away at Rick Huckins in the middle innings eventually getting it
to 7-3 but the wheels fell off a bit defensively for the Cards in the later innings leading to the
lopsided score. Dave DeVellis was all over the field for the Phillies throughout the doubleheader,
getting to everything near him at short and making several highlight-reel plays. Huckins put up a
great performance, going the distance for the win.

Red Sox 17 Indians 7
Ashland's first five batters reached base and scored in the top of the first, giving the Sox a lead that starter Steve Saraceno held comfortably the rest of the afternoon. The Sox banged out 17 hits against starter Jack Buchanan, who took the loss, Jeff Styles, and Mike Richards.
After scoring just 7 runs in an early August doubleheader loss to the Indians, the Sox had five batters score at least two runs, with centerfielder John Badaracco leading the way by scoring four times and banging out three hits. Shortstop Steve Slowik and utility man Kevin Quinn both had three hits including an extra bagger, while third baseman Steve Halzel knocked in three, and Victor Saraceno knocked in two big runs with two clutch hits.
The Sox defense was strong all day, with fine play turned in by the outfield trio of Badaracco, Steve Lawless, and Chris Cronin, and by the double-play combo of Slowik and Carl Hakansson. Saraceno scattered nine hits over seven innings before giving way to Kevin Quinn.
After the Sox put the Indians in a 6-0 hole after one and a half, the Indians clawed back into the game. They scored two in the bottom of the second, one in the the third, and two more in the fourth after the Sox scored one in the top of the inning to pull within 7-5. The Sox scored eight more over the next two innings to put the game out of reach.
Mike Giordano, who scored three times, Steve Courtwright, and Dave Lalliberte each had two hits in the Indians attack. Shortstop Mike Richards made some highlight plays at short, including a diving stop of a hard hit ball to quell one Sox rally.
Next up in the ALCS, the Sox will take on the winner of the game between the Mariners and the Orioles.
