Braves
Team Captain:Rich Moran, Email Rich
Home Field:Memorial Park, Millis
Team website:NA
Roster:Roster
Highlights: 2007 marks the Millis Braves 10th season as part of the MetroWest ABL. Led by charter member and ABL Hall-of-Famer Rich Moran, the Braves have won 11 or more games eight times, 15 twice and amassed a 103-55 regular season record in nine seasons. The Braves have qualified for the playoffs eight times, won the National League Regular Season title five times, and were the 2004 National League Champs.

The new look Braves welcome four new players while saying good-bye to five from last year's roster. Dale Bickford (1), John Fantasia (27), Frank Good (55) and Mike Pietila (33), all bring solid bats to the line-up and versatility in the field.

Moran will rely on long time Brave Paul Chiodo (12) to provide leadership in the outfield. Chris Faletra (41), one of the top catchers in the league, and Marc Sanfaçon (9), also an ABL HOFer, are back to anchor the infield.

T.J. May (2) has been moved into the leadoff spot in hopes of taking advantage of his on- base percentage. He will patrol the outfield with Chiodo and Mike "Hummer" Londergan (44). Londergan was the most improved player on the Braves in '06 and looks to make '07 a career year. Raul Matos (50) adds a steady glove in the field and a solid bat at the plate, and Jimmy "Mac" McLaughlin (13) brings a power threat to the middle of the line-up.

The Braves hope to get additional pitching support and a heavy bat from Steve Smith (88) later in the season. Christo Lagos (7), a solid five-tool player, is once again on the Braves roster and will be a force in the line-up.

Unfortunately, the injury bug has bit the Braves in the last 16 months. Ryan Scafidi (26), and star pitcher Jim Callaghan (11) will not be available until June. And the steady hands of Eric Gordon (39) will be missed at the hot corner all season due to knee surgery.

Highlights: The Indians entered the Middlesex MSBL in 1997. The base of the Indians team came from the disbanded Tigers team.

Larry Rosoff replaced Mike Kelly as player/manager of the Indians in 1999. The team won five games that season, equaling the combined total of the previous two years.

The Tribe continued to improve and make the playoffs over the next three seasons, winning seven games in 2000, eight in 2001 and 10 in 2002 as they finished in second place in the American League.

In 2002 the Indians recorded their first-ever playoff victory in defeating the Mariners, and nearly upset the undefeated league champion Orioles in the second game of the divisional finals.

In 2003, the Indians recorded their best regular season record to date, finishing 14-4. That was good for second place in the American League, two games behind the Orioles. The season finished on a disappointing note, however, as the third-place Mariners bounced the Tribe in the first round of the playoffs.

The Indians finished an even .500 in 2004 and 2005 (9-9 both years) and lost to the Red Sox in the first round of the playoffs each season.

In 2006, legendary manager Larry Rosoff handed over the reins to a triumvirate of veteran players – Craig Macauley, Mike Togneri, and Jerry Guerra. After a disappointing regular season, the Tribe dropped a 2-0 first-round elimination playoff game to eventual league champion Red Sox, leaving the bases loaded in the ninth inning.

In 2007, the Indians returned to their mediocre regular-season ways with an 8-8 record, good for fourth in the American League. After a stunning upset of the 12-3 Orioles in the first round, the Indians fell in a doubleheader sweep to the eventual champion Red Sox.

The Tribe welcomes three new players –Christian Gonzalez, Eric Holmes, and Jim Rooney – to the fold in 2008.

Mariners
Team Captain:Chris Shea, Email Chris
Home Field:Holliston High
Team website:Mariners Website
Roster:Roster
Highlights:The Holliston Mariners joined the Metro West ABL in 2000 as an expansion team consisting of former Braves members. In 2000-2001, known as the Milford Mariners due to the domicile of the team founders, the team had no home field facility. In 2002, the Mariners obtained Holliston High School as their primary home field and officially became known as the Holliston Mariners.

As an expansion team, the Mariners struggled to a 4-14 record their first year, with only 2 wins coming on the field. A steady improvement to 6-11 in 2001 and 7-11 in 2002 saw the Mariners reach the playoffs in their third year. A close first round loss to a tough Indians team ended an otherwise superb year. With a similar record in 2003, the Mariners again made the playoffs and this time made it to the American League Championship Series where they lost two close contests to the eventual champion Orioles. Team accomplishments: 18-0 in outlasting opponents in post game revelry.

Orioles
Team Captain:Carlo Galvani, Email Carlo
Stan Pulnik, Email Stan
Home Field:Long's Field, Framingham
Team website:NA
Roster:Roster
Highlights: Through the 2003 season, the Orioles have been fortunate enough to compile a record of 156-19 including a playoff record of 25-4 and regular season record of 131-15. This success is largely due to the Orioles ability to recruit family and friends to play summer baseball. The Orioles have four groups of brothers playing together on the team, Tom/Bob/Carlo/John Galvani, Brendan/Aubrey Doyle, Mark/Bill Stickney and Barry/Dean Bennett.

The team is mostly made up of players from Framingham and Hopkinton and feature former Red Sox minor leaguer Paul "Bunkie" Smith. Other former Framingham area players include Barry and Dean Bennett (North High/Umass Amherst), Tom Galvani (South HS, Westfield State), Bob Galvani (South HS, Worcester and Westfield State), John Galvani (South HS, Framingham State) Carlo Galvani (Westfield HS) and Keefe Tech grad Mark Knowlton. The Hopkinton clan consists of the Doyle's, Stickney's, Stan Pulnik, Steve Simoes, and John Malone. Rob Gray (Nashua, NH), Dick Scullary (Springfield), and Jeff Merzel (Brooklyn, NY) are also on the team.

Past Framingham players include Walter Siggins (1996-2000), Inky Fair (1998), Robbie Shaw (1998), Larry Olerich, Mike Terasconi (1994-1999), John Hogan (1995-1998) along with Ashland HS legend Steve Saraceno who left the team this year to play with his brothers and manage the Ashland Red Sox. Steve compiled a 28-5 record as a pitcher over the last three seasons including an incredible streak of 25 starts without a loss. He will be missed.

The Orioles have been around since the league formed in 1994 and have played in every season except 1995. They will be shooting for their eight league title and fourth in a row.

Red Sox
Team Captain:Steve Saraceno, Email Steve
Home Field:Ashland High School
Team website:Red Sox Website
Roster:Roster
Highlights: The 2007 MetroWest League champion Ashland Red Sox played .800 ball (16-4) despite losing seven players from the 2006 champs. In sweeping all three postseason series the Sox extended their playoff winning streak to ten games -- a feat unprecedented in league history.

Third-baseman Steve Southard, a key performer in both Sox championship runs, underwent heart surgery in December. The 34-year-old third baseman is back to work now and recovering nicely, though he will not play this year. Southard finished last season with seven straight hits and won Ashland's Tenth Player Award.

To help out in Southard's absence, the Sox added infielder Bobby Modica of Framingham. Also gracing the roster will be outfielder Keith Cheverie, back after a year's hiatus. Cheverie's defense helped deliver a Sox title in 2006.

Otherwise, most of the big guns from 2007 are reloaded: MVP catcher Brent McKenzie (.407), all-star centerfielder John Badaracco (.366, slugging .634), gimpy Brian Farrell (.426, OBP .517), steady shortstop Michael Auren (.302), and acrobatic first baseman Wayne Sylvia (.306).

On the mound, Ashland remains solid. Heading the staff is Steve Saraceno, who at age 52 enjoyed a career year in 2007, going 15-3 with a 2.51 ERA over 151 innings. The old junk merchant collected wins in all five postseason games, giving him nine straight playoff victories in the last two seasons -- plus a save.

Forcibly assisting Saraceno off the mound whenever necessary will be two-year standout Mike Donfrancesco, Steve Triveri (winner of the 16-inning Death Valley marathon vs. the Orioles last year), and knuckleballer Kevin Quinn. Centerfielder Badaracco may also see some work as a Papelbon-type closer, sans the Riverdance.

"I look forward to a complete baseball season without that dad-fool Irish step dancing," says manager Saraceno. "You won't see my brother, first-baseman Victor Saraceno, doin' it! Nor will you see first-baseman Pete Greene, second-baseman Carl Hakansson, third-baseman Steve Halzel, third-baseman pepperpot Pete Padovano (.348), outfielder and new dad Steve Linda, nor that'ere outfielder-catcher Chris Cronin, winner of the Coaches Choice Eleventh Player Award for 2007, doing no Irish step dancing! No sirree! No way, no how! They've got a nice old-fashioned Rockettes-style number they do together, and if it's good enough for them -- then dammit -- it's good enough for me!"

The Red Sox open at home vs. the Southboro Cubs April 20.
